DB Consulting

What some of our consultants say about DB Consulting

'After freelancing for over 10 years I was unsure what to expect when I first joined DB; I shouldn't have worried however. In the 4 years I've been with the Company, I have been impressed by the way DB values and treats its employees, with the flexibility of the remuneration and benefits package, and with the other consultants and staff. Lots of companies claim to be 'a people company', 4 years on I believe DB Consulting actually is one.' - written by Phil.

'DB Consulting is unlike any company I have ever worked for. Ok, so I haven't worked for a Consultancy before now, and that's not really what I mean. But coming from large corporations with tens of thousands of employees to one employing less than a hundred, you really notice the difference in the culture. And it feels good. It wasn't long before I knew everyone in the Company, and they all knew me. I really feel as though people at all levels listen to me, and value my thoughts and ideas, something that I haven't felt for a long time.

The work has, on the whole, been good too. In any job there are going to be assignments that you don't like and want to get over and done with as soon as possible, but most of the time the roles have been challenging and helped me develop. DB actively encouraged and supported me to gain the skills to move into new areas.

It's not all plain sailing though. The work is varied, but so is the location of that work. If you join DB you may be asked to work at clients where daily commuting isn't an option. I can assure you that the novelty of staying in hotels soon wears off. But if you can accept this lifestyle, it's a great place to be.' - written by Nigel.

'I have worked as a Consultant for DB for several years now and firmly believe that it provides a culture where employees are able to get back what they put into the company. If you are willing to work hard and put in extra effort then it will be recognised and rewarded. Most consultants have their own areas of speciality, but are also able to perform a wide variety of roles both as an individual and as a team player. This means that the work often has a lot of variety, which helps to keep it challenging and interesting. It also means that you are generally free to progress your career in any direction you like, as long as your skills continue to benefit the company. The company itself is small and friendly with an atmosphere that is relaxed and informal. However this is deceptive, as it hides the dedication and professionalism of the people who work here. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with DB, and am looking forward to the challenges the future will bring.' - written by Matt.

'Since joining DB I have worked on varied projects, across multiple industries all requiring flexibility, initiative, and commitment. Through these projects I have moved from System and Business Analyst roles to Project Manager supporting my career objectives. I have undertaken assignments with the confidence of knowing there is support available from colleagues on site and back in the office. Cliché as it is, DB's key assets are its employees and the recruitment process ensures that a person’s character and motivations are as suitable and important as their IT skills and competencies. DB is an environment that allows you to network and build relationships to support both your own development and that of the company.' - written by James.

'Coming from a big-5 background with big-firm expectations I have not been disappointed during my 4 years with DB Consulting. The immediate personal gain and notable difference is the individual focus that each employee receives. DB's flat organisational structure pitching all walks of consultant as equals sustains a feeling of self-worth and involvement that can be lost in larger firms. DB manages to sustain a close-knit culture whilst retaining larger-firm benefits such as a comprehensive flexible benefits scheme, extensive support network and most importantly for me 'space to grow. It also recognises the need to specialise and this too is held in equal acclaim. This can mean long hours, being flexible in the type of assignment undertaken and having to travel. However, the variety of work on offer, support and recognition from fellow colleagues, the admin team and management makes being part of DB Consulting very rewarding.' - written by Chris.

'For me, a primary benefit of working for DB is the variety. There's been variety in the type of work I've done, the location, and the people I've worked with. Over the past three years I've worked for a number of different clients, sometimes working on-site around the country, at other times from our Windsor and Milton Keynes offices and occasionally from home. I've had the chance to learn new technologies and expand my skill-set in non-technical areas, and will hopefully continue to do so as the market sways in different directions. There's no time to get bored!

Another benefit is the flexibility. By taking advantage of DB's flexi-schemes I've been able to take the extra holiday I want. There is also the benefit that, unlike working for some organisation, I do not have a specific department nor do I perform a single role day after day; consequently I've been able to perform many different roles as the needs of our clients change. Maybe that makes the organised company days and social evenings, when I get a chance to meet up with those colleagues that I haven't seen for a while, just that little bit more enjoyable.' - written by Lucy.

'In August 2004 I have been with DB Consulting for two years; and so far have enjoyed my experience of the company and its clients. DB is a very professional unit but also I have found them to be open, friendly and fun to work with. I was recruited by DB Consulting as a Senior Project Manager and my initial assignment was to manage a complex Christmas peak performance project for a large retail organisation. As you would expect I had to hit the ground running on the client site, it was stressful, long hours and hard work; but we did it. I am glad to say that DB supported me and the other technical resources and backed us fully - which really helped. The project was a success and I was asked to manage it again for the following year. I have also found myself in Manchester project managing the infrastructure build of Call Centres in India; and in Milton Keynes managing multi-stream development environments for a major project. The work is always challenging, and thus I find it quite rewarding.

DB Consulting offer the chance to prove yourself whatever your role and are willing to trust your initiative once proven. They are a small company and therefore on the occasions we meet up everyone is known and generally speaking a good time is had by all.' - written by Nik.
